John Ashurst, Continuous Improvement Leader, Production, UK

  • It’s been an exciting journey for John, and shows how much you can achieve if you bring potential and commitment to your role at PZ Cussons. John explains:

I started my PZCussons career in 2006 as a Production Team Leader working shifts at the old Kersal Vale site in Salford. I was interested in joining the company as I’d grown up in the local area. Since I’ve been a child, PZ Cussons has always known for its loyalty to employees – everyone would say that ‘it’s a job for life if you can get in there.

The move to the new and improved IC-L facility at Agecroft in 2008, there were many challenges to face at PZ Cussons, including the amount of new machinery and technology that had been purchased for Line 3. It was all new to us, but it brought opportunities for me.

I was asked if I could work days for a period of time on a secondment. This saw me support the new Line 3, working to make sure it reached desired production rate, and training other operators to the required level. It was a fantastic opportunity, which eventually saw me take on the role of site trainer.

After that, the next natural progression for me was to get involved in Lean Manufacturing. I was trained in the tools and techniques to get the best out of the people and equipment we have at IC-L, and a couple of years ago enjoyed a promotion to Continuous Improvement Leader.

I’ve come a long way with PZ Cussons – proof of what they say about CAN DO in action. If you’re committed and have the ability, you can, too.
